What key points should we consider when choosing FR fabrics?

Your review of fabrics should include thermal protection, static resistance, comfort, durability, stability, employee acceptance, appearance, ease of laundry maintenance, color availability, and relative cost. You also need to be aware of any special circumstances, such as electric arc, molten substance, or chemical hazards, weather conditions.

what is the meaning of ATPV and EBT?

ATPV stands for Arc Thermal Protective Value, which is a rating of the Arc burn protection capability of a garment. The HIGHER the ARC rating, the more protection a garment gives because it has a higher resistance to catching on fire. The ATPV is expressed in calories per cm 2 and represents the thermal exposure from an electric arc that will create a second-degree burn in human tissue.

If the ATPV cannot be calculated because the fabric breaks open, the energy causing the fabric to break open is expressed as theEnergy of Breakopen Threshold (EBT). The higher the value, the greater the protection.

flame retardant and arc flash protective fabrics manufactured by Xinxiang Zhuocheng Special Textile Co., Ltd can reach HRC level 2 after industrial washes.Welcome to contact with us to talk about more details.

    Safety tips on PPE

What you wear on the job and how you care for it is just as important as knowing how to do the job.Your personal protective equipment (PPE) can save you from injury and even save your life.Follow these guidelines for using PPE:

üAlways check with your employer for specific PPE guidelines.

üWear your personal protective equipment properly.Ask your supervisor if youre not sure how to use any item.

üUse equipment that fits you properly.

üCheck your gear for leaks, tears, cracks or other signs of wear before use.

üIf your equipment is defective, repair or replace it before use.

üReport any health problems while using your protective equipment.

üWear clean PPE and clothing. Oily and greasy clothes catch fire more easily and dust and grease can irritate your skin.

× Never wear street-wear eyeglasses in palce of certified safety glasses.

× Never store your hard hat in a car, window,or other hot place. The sun and heat can reduce its effectiveness.

üFollow guidelines for removing contaminated PPE,and decontaminate your equipment when necessary.

üHave extra PPE at the worksite in case of lost, misplaced or damaged equipment.

üAlways have safety equipment available for new hires.

Liquid metal splash test ISO 9185

Today we introduce a test : Protective Clothing - Assessment of resistanca of materials to molten metal splash.

This test evaluate the molten splash resistance of a fabric,as part of fabric protective performance.

There are several points in the test method, very easy and clear. But as it's hard to get the molten metal in our normal work environment, also this test is a little dangerous. This test is carried out usually in professional test laboratories like BTTG,STFI,etc.

    The test include:
    • 4 specimen
    • 260 x 100 mm
    • Pouring height 225 mm
    • Aluminium 60℃ Iron 75℃ angel
    • Damage of skin simulant
    • Hole formation in the fabric
    • Classification according to relevant standard e.g. EN ISO 11612

Drotex flame retardant fabric can pass this standard, please contact us for more details.

    Different Color Fastness Tests

    Color Fastness:

Color fastness is one of the important factors in case of buyers demand. The outstandingly important property of a dyed material is the fastness of the shade of color. Color fastness refers to the resistance of color to fade or bleed of a dyed or printed textile materials to various types of influences e.g. water, light, rubbing, washing, perspiration etc. to which they are normally exposed in textile manufacturing and in daily use. We have written a lot of articles on color fastness.

    Standards of Color Fastness:

    1. AATCC (American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists) technical manual:
Describes 66 numbers of different color fastness tests.

    2. SDC (Society of Dyers and Colorists):
In 1927, SDC (Europe) made fastness test committee.

    3. ISO(International Organization for Standardization):
In 1947, ISO made color sub committee. ISO also grades the fastness:
    For light fastness: 1~8
    For other fastness: 1~5

Factors Affecting the Color Fastness Properties:

The chemical nature of the fiber. For example, cellulosic fibers dyed with reactive or vat dyes will show good fastness properties. Protein fibers dyed with acid mordant and reactive dyes will achieve good fastness properties and so on. That is to say compatibility of dye with the fiber is very important.
    1. The molecular structure (e.g.) of a dye molecule: If the dye molecule is larger in size, it will be tightly entrapped inside the inter-polymer chain space of a fiber. Thus the fastness will be better.
    2. The manner in which the dye is bonded to the fiber or the physical form present.
    3. The amount of dye present in the fiber i.e. depth of shade. A deep shade will be less fast than a pale or light shade.
    4. The presence of other chemicals in the material.
    5. The actual conditions prevailing during exposure.

Protection Against Fire Hazards with Aramid fabric

At Drotex, we believe the standard for safety should always be a higher standard. So we engineered Aramid fabric to help give workers dependable protection against fire hazards.

Fires are unpredictable — situations can change in an instant with temperatures reaching 1900 degrees F, leaving workers vulnerable to serious injury. So for hazards like flash fire and pool fire, Drotex created Aramid Inherent FR fabric. A blend of 93% meta-aramid with 5% para-aramid and 2% antistatic fiber, this innovative fabric helps minimize break-open, and expands to form a stable and inert barrier between the fire and skin. This gives wearers the valuable seconds they need to escape from the hazard.

But comfort and fit are also an essential part of safety. In collaboration with manufacturers and mills, Drotex strives to help them make significant fabric improvements -- providing lighter weights, wicking finishes, and breathability.

At Drotex, innovation means testing beyond the basics with state-of-the-art technology,,one of the most advanced life-size thermal burn injury evaluation devices in the world today. The research and data Drotex scientists have collected have enabled them to improve upon the possibilities of Aramid FR garments.

    Additional Aramid fabric considerations:

    • Widely used by petroleum, petrochemical, chemical, and utility industries, as well as firefighters
    • Inherent thermal protection that cannot be washed away
    • Durable and resistant to abrasion, tears, and chemicals
    • Meets the NFPA 1975 standard for firefighters’ stationwear
    • Meets the ASTM F1506 standard for workers’apparel as protection from electric arc exposure
    • Complies with NFPA 70E Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace
    • Complies with NFPA 2112 Standard on Flame-Resistant Garments for Protection of Industrial Personnel Against Flash Fire

    Drotex fabric pass BS5852

BS5852 is a British furniture flame proof standard, the requirements of FR features are more strict than that of American and other countries. It tests cigarette end and simulate flame caused by a match.

BS5852 does not require materials to be FR after laundries, but material must resistant specified water immersion test.Fabric are put into mild water at 40℃ degress for 30 minutes.

Drotex has passed BS5852 test with excellent FR performance.Welcome friends from around the  world to cooperation in the future!
